About the Author
(from “Miniature Flowers in Sugar” published by B. Dutton Publishing Limited)
She grew up in Japan and became an actress in the famous Takarazuka Revue, working under the stage name of Ai Mizuki. She moved to the UK in the 1990s and took her first sugarcraft course at Brooklands College with tutor Chris Jeffcoat in 1997. After achieving the City & Guilds Centra Certificate, Fumi began to teach sugarcraft and set up her own company, Ai Mizuki Cake Artistry. She continued to take courses to broaden her sugarcraft repertoire, learning from established figures such as Alan Dunn and Tombi Peck, and also received a diploma from the Constance Spry Flower School.
Whilst living in the UK, Fumi soon established a reputation for producing wonderfully delicate sugar work and incredibly realistic flowers. She has won several accolades for her work, including a BSG Gold Trophy, gold and silver awards at the prestigious Salon Culinaire International de Londres, and first prize in the floral class at Squires Kitchen's 2007 Cake Decorating and Sugarcraft Competition.
Fumi returned to Japan in 2006 and is living in Tokyo. She continues to run Ai Mizuki Cake Artistry and is a popular tutor. Visit www.fumifukumuro.com for more information.
Fumi has been a regular demonstrator at the Annual Squires Exhibition, and she has been invited to be one of the key demonstrators at the New Zealand Cake Decorators Guild Inc. Conference 2012 in November.
